Netanyahu backs Trump Gaza plan excluding Hamas and PA
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has backed President Trump’s new peace proposal, stating it would prevent Gaza from being governed by Hamas or the Palestinian Authority. Instead, he said, control would go to groups “committed to peace.” Netanyahu added that the initiative presents an opportunity to expand the Abraham Accords.
He described the plan as a “different model” for Gaza’s future, one that excludes entities he views as obstacles to security and stability. In his framing, the new governance structure would reflect both Israel’s security concerns and broader regional normalization efforts already underway through the Accords.
Netanyahu’s comments align with elements in Trump’s 21-point peace plan, which calls for Hamas disarmament, exclusion from Gaza governance, and establishment of a temporary administration composed of technocrats under international supervision. Under that blueprint, the Palestinian Authority might not be involved immediately.
His statement also underscores Israel’s vision for postwar Gaza: one in which neither Hamas nor the PA retains control, but an alternative structure operates under international oversight, while the Accords broaden as more Arab states engage.
