26th July 2025
Wrestling icon Hulk Hogan (real name Terry Bollea) was in the middle of filming a Netflix documentary about his life when he passed away unexpectedly from cardiac arrest on July 24, 2025, at the age of 71 in Clearwater, Florida.
Documentary Production Was Underway
Netflix had been developing the documentary in collaboration with WWE since 2024. The production was led by Connor Schell’s Words + Pictures and directed by Bryan Storkel. The project included over 20 hours of exclusive sit-down interviews with Hogan and around 30 hours of additional footage capturing his day-to-day activities and reflections on his life.
The documentary was created with Hogan’s full involvement, and production insiders said it aimed to reveal a more personal side of the wrestling legend rarely seen by the public.
Documentary Will Continue Posthumously
Following Hogan’s death, the filmmakers confirmed that the documentary will still be completed, though parts of the project are being revised to address the recent events. A WWE tribute filmed during a SmackDown event is expected to be included in the final version.
Hogan’s Final Months
In the months leading to his death, Hogan remained publicly active despite facing health issues, including a neck surgery in May. He also launched a new unscripted wrestling venture called Real American Freestyle and gave media interviews promoting the project.
His passing has shocked fans and the wrestling community. WWE honored him with a tribute and a ten-bell salute. Close friend and fellow wrestling legend Jimmy Hart shared personal memories and expressed heartbreak over Hogan’s sudden decline.
