The long-awaited return of the Dragon Ball Super anime was officially confirmed on Sunday, January 25, 2026, during the “Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri” (Genkidama Festival) at Makuhari Messe in Japan. The new project, titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, will serve as a direct sequel to the Universe Survival Arc (Tournament of Power) that concluded in 2018. The series is set to adapt the fan-favorite Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc from the manga, famously known for introducing the energy-absorbing wizard and “Planet-Eater,” Moro. While Toei Animation confirmed that the series is “set for production,” a specific premiere date for the Moro adaptation has not yet been finalized, though industry insiders suggest a 2027 window.
The announcement was made by legendary voice actress Masako Nozawa (Goku) and Executive Producer Akio Iyoku during a special 40th-anniversary stage event. A teaser visual was unveiled globally, depicting Goku and Vegeta in their official Galactic Patrol uniforms, complete with the organization’s crest on their chest armor. This new era for the franchise is particularly significant as it marks the first major Super project since the passing of creator Akira Toriyama in 2024. While Toriyama provided the original character designs and plot outlines for the Moro and Granolah arcs before his death, the production is being led by his successor, Toyotarou, and the veteran staff at Toei Animation.
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Remaster Announced
In addition to the new arc, a second major anime project titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus was announced for a Fall 2026 release. This “enhanced edition” will reconstruct the Battle of Gods and Resurrection ‘F’ sagas with significantly improved artwork, newly added cuts, and reshot scenes to align with the higher quality standards set by the recent Dragon Ball Daima series. Producer Iyoku explained that this remaster aims to be more faithful to Toriyama’s original draft and will feature music by Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer, who also scored the 40th-anniversary commemorative video released at the event.
Expanding the Dragon Ball Universe
The Genkidamatsuri event also served as a launchpad for several other multimedia projects within the franchise. A new original video game, tentatively titled Dragon Ball: Age 1000, was announced for 2027, featuring an original character designed by Toriyama. Furthermore, Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO fans received a teaser for a new DLC pack including Super Saiyan Bardock and King Piccolo. With the Galactic Patrol anime finally moving into production and the “Beerus” remaster set to bridge the gap this autumn, 2026 is shaping up to be the most active year for the franchise since the original Super series premiered over a decade ago.
