Disney Pulls Jimmy Kimmel Live Off Air Indefinitely After Charlie Kirk Remarks
Disney-owned ABC has pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! off the air indefinitely after the host sparked widespread controversy with his comments about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kimmel accused members of the MAGA movement of trying to miscast the teenager accused of killing Kirk, claiming they were attempting to shift blame and score political points from the incident.
The backlash was immediate and severe. Nexstar Media Group, which owns a large number of ABC affiliate stations across the United States, announced it would no longer air Kimmel’s late-night program. The company described his remarks as offensive and insensitive, adding that they did not reflect the values of the communities it serves.
Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr also weighed in, condemning Kimmel’s statements as highly inappropriate and labeling them the “sickest conduct possible.” Carr further suggested that broadcast licenses could face scrutiny, emphasizing the responsibility broadcasters have to operate in the public interest.
ABC later released a statement confirming that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would be “preempted indefinitely.” The network has not provided clarity on when, or if, the show will return, leaving the future of one of late-night television’s most recognizable programs uncertain.
