Dangote Refinery Resumes Petrol Sales in Naira After Federal Government Intervention
Dangote Refinery has resumed the sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Nigeria’s local currency following the intervention of the Federal Government’s Naira-for-Crude Technical Committee.
The refinery confirmed that it will now process fuel orders in naira for both self-collection and free delivery to its designated depots across the country. This marks a reversal of its earlier decision to suspend naira-based petrol sales after it claimed to have exhausted its crude-for-naira allocation.
The government’s intervention is seen as a move to stabilize domestic fuel supply and ease public concern over rising petrol prices. Industry stakeholders say the decision will also help reduce pressure on foreign exchange demand, which had been expected to increase following the refinery’s suspension of local currency sales.
Analysts believe the resumption will temporarily calm market volatility, though long-term stability will depend on continued collaboration between the refinery, the government, and key downstream operators.
