Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that his administration owes contractors the sum of N5.2 billion. Speaking in Abuja, Wike clarified that the reported debts are not new and actually predate his assumption of office.
The minister emphasized that his leadership remains committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in handling government contracts. He explained that while contractors are entitled to their payments, it would be misleading to associate the entire backlog with his tenure.
According to Wike, his administration has continued to clear outstanding liabilities inherited from previous governments, noting that such financial obligations are common when transitions occur. He further assured stakeholders that efforts are ongoing to prioritize and settle genuine claims.
Wike also stressed that the Federal Capital Territory Administration is focused on delivering critical infrastructure, promising that no credible contractor will be denied their rightful dues.
