Norwegian Royal Scandal: Crown Princess's Son Accused of Rape and Abuse

Marius Borg Høiby, the 28-year-old son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, has been formally charged with 32 criminal offences after a lengthy investigation. The charges include four counts of rape, multiple incidents of domestic violence, unlawful filming, threats, vandalism, and assault.

Prosecutors disclosed that the indictments are backed by evidence such as witness testimonies, photographs, videos, and text messages. The alleged crimes reportedly took place between 2018 and 2024, with some incidents occurring even after investigations had begun.

Høiby has denied the most serious accusations, including rape and domestic abuse, although his legal team indicated he may plead guilty to lesser offences. The trial is scheduled to begin in January 2026 and could last around six weeks. If convicted of the most serious charges, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

Although connected to the royal family, Høiby holds no title and is not in the line of succession. The Norwegian royal palace emphasized that the matter is strictly a judicial issue and that he will be treated like any other defendant under the law.
