Real Madrid Triumphs 1-0 Over Osasuna in Alonso's La Liga Debut

Real Madrid kicked off their league campaign with a narrow 1–0 victory over Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabéu, marking a winning start for new head coach Xabi Alonso. The only goal came in the early stages of the second half, when Kylian Mbappé converted a penalty after being fouled in the box.

Despite dominating possession in the first half, Real Madrid struggled to find clear opportunities. Their best chances came from long-range efforts by defenders Dean Huijsen and Éder Militao, both of which the Osasuna goalkeeper managed to save.

Alonso fielded his new signings—Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen, and Álvaro Carreras—in the starting lineup, adding fresh energy to the squad. The only debuting youth talent came on later: 18-year-old Franco Mastantuono entered the fray and nearly scored late in the game, only to have his effort saved.

The match ended on a dramatic note, with Osasuna’s Abel Bretones receiving a red card for a high-arm foul during stoppage time. Real held firm to secure their first three points of the season—an important step following a recent Club World Cup loss and amid absences of key players due to injury and suspension.
