PDP's Oyekunle Triumphs in Ibadan North Federal Constituency By-Election

Folajimi Oyekunle, popularly known as “DoN,” has emerged victorious in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared his victory in the early hours of Sunday after vote counts were concluded across all 12 wards.

Oyekunle, representing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), secured a total of 18,404 votes, defeating his closest rival Adewale Olatunji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 8,312 votes. Other candidates included Femi Akin-Alamu of the African Democratic Congress with 88 votes, Olabisi Olajumoke of the All Progressives Grand Alliance with 40 votes, and Hammed Badmus of the Zenith Labour Party with 18 votes.

The win by Oyekunle fills the vacant seat left by the late Olaide Akinremi, the former APC lawmaker who passed away in July 2024. The result marks a significant political gain for the PDP, as it reclaims the Ibadan North seat for the first time since 2011.
