NNPCL Secures N318 Billion to Fund New Oil Exploration Projects

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has secured N318 billion in funding to drive fresh oil exploration initiatives across key basins. The investment is aimed at boosting Nigeriaโ€™s crude oil reserves, expanding production capacity, and strengthening the countryโ€™s energy security.

According to the company, the funds will be deployed to accelerate seismic surveys, drilling activities, and development of new oil blocks, particularly in frontier basins. NNPCL stressed that the move is part of its broader strategy to expand Nigeriaโ€™s resource base and sustain long-term revenue generation for the economy.

Officials highlighted that the financing arrangement reflects renewed investor confidence in Nigeriaโ€™s oil and gas sector, despite global energy transitions. They added that the projects are expected to create jobs, attract more investment, and generate additional foreign exchange earnings for the country.

Energy analysts, however, cautioned that Nigeria must balance new exploration with ongoing global commitments to cleaner energy. They urged NNPCL to simultaneously expand investments in gas and renewable energy to ensure sustainable growth and reduce reliance on crude exports.
