Myanmar air strike kills students in Rakhine schools
At least 18 people, most of them students, have been killed following an air strike carried out by Myanmar’s military on two private schools in Rakhine state. The attack took place in a village in western Myanmar, leaving classrooms destroyed and families in deep mourning.
Local media and armed resistance groups reported that the majority of victims were children who were attending lessons when the strike occurred. Witnesses described scenes of panic as villagers rushed to rescue survivors trapped under debris. Many of the injured have been taken to nearby clinics, though medical facilities in the area remain overstretched.
The strike marks one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in recent months, fueling further anger toward Myanmar’s military, which has faced global condemnation since the 2021 coup. Human rights organizations have already denounced the attack, calling for accountability and urgent international intervention.
The tragedy has renewed concerns about the safety of civilians in conflict zones across Myanmar, particularly vulnerable groups such as children and teachers. Calls are growing for global pressure on the junta to halt strikes on civilian areas and to allow humanitarian access to affected regions.
