FG Cancels Independence Day Parade Ahead of 65th Anniversary

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the cancellation of the Independence Day parade originally scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, to mark the country’s 65th anniversary. The decision was made official through a statement from Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information & Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

While no specific reason was offered for the cancellation, the government emphasized that the move does not diminish the importance of the anniversary. Other planned programmes for the independence celebrations are confirmed to proceed as scheduled.

In the statement, the government expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and called on Nigerians, the diplomatic community, and invited guests to remain supportive of the reform agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
