Ferrari Unveils Luce: First Fully Electric Supercar

Ferrari Luce electric car debut

Ferrari officially entered the electric era on May 26, 2026, with the world premiere of the Luce, the Italian manufacturer’s first fully electric production vehicle. Unveiled at the Vela de Calatrava complex in Rome, the Luce represents one of the most significant shifts in the brand’s 78-year history, blending high-performance engineering with a bold new design language intended to challenge traditional perceptions of what a Ferrari can be.

The Luce is a four-door, five-seat grand tourer, making it the largest vehicle ever produced by Maranello. Its design, developed in collaboration with the creative collective LoveFrom—led by former Apple design chief Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson—features a minimalist, glass-house silhouette with rear-hinged coach doors. The interior emphasizes tactile, physical controls and analogue-inspired instrumentation, eschewing the trend of screen-heavy cockpits to ensure a more mechanical and interactive driving experience.

Under the hood, the Luce is powered by a proprietary quad-motor drivetrain—one motor for each wheel—delivering a combined output of 1,035hp (772kW) in launch control mode. Ferrari claims the vehicle can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in approximately 2.5 seconds, with a top speed of 193 mph (310 km/h). The vehicle is built on a bespoke 880-volt architecture featuring a 122kWh battery pack that offers an estimated WLTP range of 329 miles (529 km). To address the loss of combustion engine acoustics, Ferrari has engineered an “EV-specific soundtrack” using vibrating components that generate a tone inspired by an electric guitar.

Ferrari leadership emphasized that the Luce is designed to attract a new generation of buyers, noting that half of the attendees at the launch event were not existing Ferrari owners. While the brand is committed to electrification, CEO Benedetto Vigna reiterated that the Luce will exist alongside Ferrari’s V12 and hybrid models as part of a “multi-energy” strategy. The car is expected to begin customer deliveries in early 2027, with European pricing starting at approximately €550,000.
