Country Duo Maddie & Tae Announce Split After 15 Years as Priorities Shift to Motherhood and Solo Career

The popular country music duo Maddie & Tae has officially announced the conclusion of their professional partnership after fifteen years together, with the decision being driven by a mutual and amicable shift in personal priorities following motherhood. Tae Dye Kerr and Maddie Marlow Font, both now thirty, confirmed on Monday, December 8, 2025, that they will be moving forward on separate paths, with Mrs. Kerr intending to prioritize her family and Mrs. Font planning to launch a solo career.

The two women, who first met at age fifteen in a Dallas vocal studio and went on to record the platinum-selling, chart-topping hit “Girl in a Country Song” in 2014, stressed that the decision to end their musical collaboration was “heartbreaking” but necessary. Mrs. Kerr, who shares two young children with her husband, Grammy-winning songwriter-producer Josh Kerr, revealed that the constant touring and demands of the music industry were proving too difficult to balance with her desire to be a full-time stay-at-home mother. Mrs. Font, who is also a mother, acknowledged that she had been aware of her partner’s difficulty in balancing the demands of work and family life. The decision was formalized during an emotional phone call in September where Mrs. Kerr ultimately expressed that her heart was “at home.”

The duo emphasized that while the professional partnership is concluding, their deep personal friendship remains intact, and they are refraining from calling the separation a “breakup.” They plan to honor their existing performance commitments, which run into the spring of 2026, before fully transitioning into their new individual roles. The split marks a significant change in the country music landscape, where the duo was known for their authentic songwriting and willingness to challenge industry norms.
