Trump Blames Immigration for French Unrest

President Donald Trump attributed the escalating civil unrest in France directly to European border policies, taking to social media and public remarks to urge French President Emmanuel Macron and European leaders to immediately restrict immigration. Addressing reporters in Washington and posting on Truth Social, Trump rejected domestic explanations for the violent demonstrations—which originally began over student demands and rising living costs—asserting that out-of-control mass migration was the underlying cause.

“France is burning! The immigration of people from an entirely different world, people with hatred in their hearts, has shattered that once great country,” Trump wrote online, calling on French authorities to “Close your Borders and take control, before it is too late!” Speaking to reporters on Monday, Trump doubled down on his comments, stating that the violence “has to do with immigration, not schools, not anything”.

Recounting past discussions with Macron, Trump claimed he had previously warned the French president that allowing open migration would transform Paris into a “Muslim city” and urged European nations to deport individuals participating in street violence. According to an official news report published by The Guardian, senior Republican figures and administration officials, including Vice President JD Vance, amplified similar rhetoric, framing the unrest in France as a warning to American voters ahead of upcoming midterm elections.

The remarks align with long-standing far-right political narratives regarding European integration and border control. However, the statements run directly counter to the official position of the French government. French authorities maintain that while political extremists are exploiting student mobilizations, the core protests stem from domestic socioeconomic grievances, educational funding demands, and public sector labor disputes. Despite opposition calls for restraint, Trump’s intervention highlights how domestic U.S. political campaigns are leveraging transatlantic security developments to reinforce core national immigration agendas.
