The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the resumption of cargo revenue collection at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, after a 15-year break. The decision comes as part of efforts to boost internally generated revenue and tighten financial oversight within the aviation sector.
FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, confirmed that the system would now operate under a modernized framework to ensure transparency and efficiency. The move is expected to significantly increase revenue streams for the authority while also improving the regulation of cargo operations at the airport.
Industry observers say this step could reposition Lagos as a major regional hub for cargo operations, enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness in global trade. Stakeholders have welcomed the development, noting that improved accountability and efficiency in cargo management will also benefit importers and exporters across the country.
