Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun engages senior officers in Abuja to set new goals for Nigeria’s security architecture
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has convened a high-level strategic conference and retreat for senior police officers in Abuja. The gathering is aimed at repositioning the Nigeria Police Force to tackle rising security challenges through inclusive and intelligence-led policing.
Impressive Achievements and Security Gains
During the event, the IGP applauded the efforts of the force in combating crime nationwide. He revealed that between April and May 2025, the police arrested 1,774 suspects, recovered 274 firearms, and rescued 476 kidnapped victims.
These figures, he noted, represent the result of increased operational effectiveness, dedication, and inter-agency collaboration.
Shift Toward Intelligence-Driven Policing
Egbetokun emphasized a major shift from reactive to intelligence-led policing. He called for advanced crime detection strategies, inter-agency coordination, and improved community policing tactics.
He also advocated for the deployment of modern surveillance tools and digital solutions to tackle crimes like kidnapping, cybercrime, and banditry.

The IGP stressed the importance of continued training, ethical discipline, and the promotion of meritocracy within the police force.
He urged commanders to adopt leadership models that empower their subordinates while upholding public trust and professional integrity.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Bola Tinubu commended the IGP’s leadership and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reforming national security.
He urged all law enforcement agencies to align efforts for a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.
Roadmap for Police Reform and Public Trust
The conference outlined long-term goals including the expansion of forensic investigation units, modernization of communication systems, and fostering youth engagement to deter crime from the grassroots.
Senior officers pledged to implement the outcomes of the retreat in their various jurisdictions for better security impact.
