Trump Warns Pregnant Women Against Tylenol Over Autism Risk Claims
President Donald Trump has urged pregnant women to avoid using Tylenol (acetaminophen), claiming that prenatal exposure to the drug may increase the risk of autism and ADHD. His remarks came alongside a White House announcement that the Food and Drug Administration is preparing to update warning labels and issue new guidance advising expectant mothers to use the medication only when absolutely necessary.
Medical experts, however, swiftly dismissed the claims as unproven and potentially misleading. Researchers stressed that while some observational studies have suggested a possible link, no scientific evidence has established causation. Leading health organizations continue to regard Tylenol as one of the few over-the-counter remedies considered safe during pregnancy when taken at recommended doses.
At the same time, the Trump administration revealed plans to expand autism research and promote potential treatments, including the drug leucovorin, which has shown limited promise in small studies. Specialists cautioned that such therapies remain experimental and should not replace proven interventions such as behavioral therapy and early developmental support.
