Thousands Gather at National Mall for Rededicate 250
Rededicate 250 prayer festival
Thousands of attendees gathered on the National Mall this Sunday for a daylong event titled Rededicate 250: A National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise & Thanksgiving. The rally, organized by the White House-backed partnership Freedom 250, was designed to mark the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.
Participants dressed in patriotic colors filled a section of the Mall near 12th Street to engage in evangelical-style worship, Scripture readings, and testimonies. The event’s main stage featured arched stained-glass designs and a white cross, emphasizing the organizers’ focus on the nation’s historical connection to Christian values.
The festival featured a series of high-profile speakers and government officials, both in person and through video messages. President Donald Trump addressed the crowd via a recorded video, reading a passage from 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Other prominent Republicans, including Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and House Speaker Mike Johnson, also participated in the program. The lineup was comprised largely of evangelical leaders and religious figures who support the narrative that the United States was founded as a Christian nation.
While the event drew thousands of supporters who expressed a desire to rededicate the country to their faith, it also sparked criticism and counter-protests. Advocacy groups, including the Freedom From Religion Foundation and Faithful America, criticized the government’s involvement in a specifically religious event, arguing it blurred the constitutional lines between church and state.
Protesters set up a large balloon depicting a golden calf near the Mall to signal their opposition to what they termed Christian nationalism. Despite the controversy, organizers described the gathering as a historic moment of reflection and a call for spiritual renewal ahead of the nation’s milestone birthday.
