India to Continue Oil Purchases Based on Best Deal, Says Envoy to Russia

India has reaffirmed its commitment to sourcing oil based on favorable terms, with its envoy to Russia stating that the country will continue to buy crude from where it gets “the best deal.” The statement underscores New Delhi’s pragmatic energy strategy as it balances global pressures with its growing domestic needs.

India, one of the world’s largest oil importers, has significantly expanded its purchases of discounted Russian crude since the start of the Ukraine war, despite Western sanctions on Moscow. This approach has helped India keep domestic fuel prices stable while meeting rising energy demands.

The envoy emphasized that India’s decisions are rooted in economic considerations rather than politics, highlighting the importance of affordable and secure energy supplies to sustain the country’s economic growth. He noted that Russia remains a strong partner, but stressed that India’s oil trade policy will continue to prioritize competitive pricing, regardless of the supplier nation.

This stance reflects India’s ongoing effort to diversify its energy sources, maintaining a balance between strategic partnerships and economic benefits as global oil markets remain volatile.
