Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant extended his heartiest greetings to the people of Goa on Monday, January 26, 2026, to mark the significant occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day. In a formal message issued from Panaji, the Chief Minister paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters and the architects of the Indian Constitution, whose relentless struggle paved the way for a free and democratic nation. Dr. Sawant emphasized that Republic Day is a historic milestone that honors the enactment of the Constitution, which officially came into effect on January 26, 1950. He described the day as a matter of “collective pride” for every citizen and urged the public to reflect on the democratic values that have allowed the country to achieve monumental heights over the past seven decades.

During his address, Chief Minister Sawant highlighted the intrinsic link between fundamental rights and fundamental duties. He noted that while citizens enjoy the protections afforded by the Constitution, they must also remain committed to their duties to ensure the supremacy of democratic principles. He called upon the people of the state to cherish and protect the secular, democratic, and federal values enshrined in the nation’s supreme document. The Chief Minister specifically expressed his gratitude to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, who chaired the Drafting Committee, and the other visionaries who bequeathed the nation its constitutional framework. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to these ideals, stressing that the progress of the nation is built upon the foundation of its people’s dedication to the rule of law.

Turning his focus to the state’s development, Dr. Sawant reiterated the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure, public health, and educational opportunities for all citizens. He invited the people of Goa to contribute actively toward the progress of the “small, beautiful state” and collectively pledged to work toward the twin goals of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” and “Swayampurna Goa.” The Chief Minister concluded his message by paying solemn tribute to the memory of patriotic revolutionaries and martyrs, wishing happiness and prosperity to every household in the state as they celebrate the 77th anniversary of the Republic.

The main state-level celebrations for the 77th Republic Day were held at the Goa University Ground in Taleigao. The Governor of Goa, Shri Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, unfurled the National Flag and reviewed the ceremonial parade in the presence of Chief Minister Sawant, Union Minister Shripad Naik, and other high-ranking dignitaries. The ceremony featured a vibrant display of the state’s cultural diversity and a review of the progress made in service delivery and infrastructure. As the tricolor was hoisted across various government buildings and schools, the state joined the rest of the country in celebrating the enduring spirit of the Indian Republic.
