Chiefs’ Rashee Rice Sentenced to 30 Days in Jail

Rashee Rice jail sentence 2026

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice began serving a 30-day jail sentence on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, after testing positive for marijuana. The positive test constitutes a violation of the probation terms established following his involvement in a high-speed multi-car crash on a Dallas highway in March 2024. The Texas State Attorney’s Office confirmed that Rice was booked into the Dallas County jail at approximately 1:25 p.m. ET and is scheduled to be released on June 16.

This jail term is being enforced as part of the original sentence from Rice’s July 2024 plea deal. At that time, Rice pleaded guilty to third-degree felony charges of racing on a highway and causing bodily injury. As a condition of his five-year deferred probation, he was required to serve 30 days in custody. By ordering him to report to jail now, the court has officially activated this portion of his original sentence. The Kansas City Chiefs organization has declined to comment on the matter.

The timing of this incarceration means that Rice will be absent for a significant portion of the Chiefs’ offseason program, including the entirety of their organized team activities (OTAs) and mandatory minicamp. The 26-year-old wide receiver, who helped the franchise secure a Super Bowl victory during the 2023 season, previously served a six-game suspension last year for violating the league’s personal conduct policy related to the initial 2024 incident. As Rice serves his sentence, his legal team continues to manage a separate civil case, which is currently scheduled to proceed to trial on June 9.
