Anthropic has contested the severity of this finding, noting that similar capabilities are widely available in other publicly deployed frontier models and are routinely used by cybersecurity defenders to protect critical infrastructure.
This suspension arrives just days after the public launch of Fable 5, which was designed as a broadly accessible version of the highly restricted, cybersecurity-specialized Mythos 5 model. Anthropic has characterized the government’s intervention as a misunderstanding and has expressed its intention to work with federal regulators to restore access. In a statement addressing the broader impact on the AI industry and future model deployments, the company warned that if such a low threshold for recalling commercial models were applied universally, it would essentially halt the deployment of frontier AI across the entire technology sector.
