Lagos police confirm death of 23-year-old Law School student

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of 23-year-old Nigerian Law School student, Faith Alayande, after she was reportedly found dead within the school’s hostel premises in Victoria Island, Lagos. 

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 7, 2026. Preliminary information provided by the police indicates that Alayande may have jumped from the rooftop of the four-storey hostel building.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident and said the matter was reported by the hostel matron after the student was found unresponsive.

According to the police account, another student and a relative reportedly discovered a note allegedly written by Alayande and began searching for her. Police said she reportedly jumped from the rooftop before they could locate her.

Police operatives visited the scene after the incident was reported. The student’s body was subsequently evacuated to a morgue for preservation as investigations continue.

The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation, and authorities have not released a final conclusion on the incident. Police are expected to establish the full circumstances surrounding the student’s death as the investigation progresses.

The death has caused concern within the Nigerian Law School community, with reports highlighting the need for stronger welfare and mental-health support for students facing academic and professional pressures.

Authorities have urged that the incident be treated as a matter under investigation until all relevant facts are established.
