Troops arrest suspected terrorist informant in Adamawa
Nigerian troops have arrested a suspected terrorist informant during a security operation in Adamawa State, as the military continues efforts to dismantle insurgent networks operating in the North-East. The arrest was made during an intelligence-led operation aimed at disrupting the activities of terrorist groups and their local support structures, according to military authorities.
The military said the suspect is believed to have provided information and logistical support to terrorist elements operating in parts of Adamawa and neighboring states. Officials alleged that the individual assisted insurgents by supplying intelligence on troop movements and other security-related activities. The allegations remain under investigation, and the suspect has not been convicted of any offence.
According to the military, the operation forms part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts designed to identify not only armed fighters but also individuals suspected of facilitating terrorist activities through information sharing, logistics, or financial support. Security officials say disrupting these support networks is critical to weakening insurgent operations and improving civilian safety in affected communities.
Military authorities added that several items of intelligence value were recovered during the operation and are being examined as part of the investigation. The suspect has been taken into custody for further interrogation and may face prosecution if sufficient evidence is established in accordance with Nigerian law.
The arrest comes as security forces continue to intensify operations across the North-East, targeting the remnants of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). In recent months, the Armed Forces have reported the arrest of suspected collaborators, the recovery of weapons and ammunition, and the rescue of civilians during coordinated operations involving the Army, Air Force, and other security agencies.
Security analysts have noted that intelligence gathering and community cooperation remain essential components of Nigeria’s counterinsurgency strategy.
