UFC CEO Dana White officially announced that superstar fighter Conor McGregor will make his long-awaited return to the octagon this summer. The brash Irishman is scheduled to headline the massive UFC 329 event on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

He will square off against fellow former champion Max Holloway in a highly anticipated five-round welterweight main event. The blockbuster matchup will anchor the promotion’s annual International Fight Week festivities at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This booking effectively ends years of intense speculation regarding the competitive future of the biggest star in the history of mixed martial arts. It also gives combat sports fans one of the most compelling rematches in modern UFC history.

The high-profile summer bout marks the first time that Conor McGregor will compete professionally since July 2021. His last appearance inside the cage ended in disaster. He suffered a severe leg fracture during a trilogy loss to Dustin Poirier.

The 37-year-old fighter subsequently endured a lengthy recovery process and navigated multiple false starts regarding a potential comeback. A highly publicized matchup against Michael Chandler was originally scheduled for 2024.

However, McGregor ultimately withdrew due to a sudden toe injury. Outside of his physical recovery, the former two-division champion also faced significant legal scrutiny over the past year. An Irish jury found him liable in a civil sexual assault lawsuit stemming from a 2018 incident. Ireland’s High Court later upheld that verdict.

Despite these persistent distractions, the UFC hierarchy has remained committed to facilitating his return to active competition. The upcoming main event serves as a direct sequel to an early chapter in both fighters’ legendary careers.

McGregor and Max Holloway last shared the cage in August 2013 during a featherweight preliminary bout at TD Garden in Boston. McGregor secured a dominant unanimous decision victory on that night despite suffering an ACL tear midway through the contest. Both men went on to achieve immense success within the promotion after their initial encounter.

McGregor became the first fighter in UFC history to hold two championship belts simultaneously by capturing the featherweight and lightweight crowns. Meanwhile, Holloway established himself as one of the greatest featherweights of all time and recently held the symbolic BMF title.

He enters this rematch carrying considerable momentum following a series of strong performances in the lightweight and featherweight divisions. The official announcement immediately triggered a flurry of activity across various social media platforms.

McGregor wasted no time in reviving their historic rivalry by posting several provocative messages on his personal channels. The former champion shared archived photos from their first bout and vowed to establish his dominance once again.

Holloway responded calmly to the online taunts, expressing his eagerness to avenge the early defeat on a global stage. The addition of this marquee bout heavily bolsters an already deep UFC 329 fight card. The event also features a lightweight clash between Paddy Pimblett and Benoît Saint Denis.

Additionally, bantamweight contenders Cory Sandhagen and Mario Bautista will meet in a pivotal rematch. The formal fight contracts are now finalized. The mixed martial arts community is turning its full attention to this massive summer sports spectacle.
