The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has directed protesting ex-soldiers to vacate the premises of the Ministry of Finance in Abuja following their demonstration over unpaid entitlements.
The retired military personnel, who had occupied the ministryβs entrance for several hours, demanded the immediate release of their pensions and other benefits. Their protest disrupted activities around the area, drawing the attention of security operatives and government officials.
In a statement, DHQ urged the ex-soldiers to pursue dialogue through established channels, emphasizing that blocking government institutions was not the appropriate way to resolve grievances. The military authorities also assured that discussions are ongoing to address the concerns raised.
The protest highlights long-standing issues of welfare and entitlements among retired servicemen, many of whom argue that they have been neglected despite years of service to the nation. Stakeholders believe resolving the matter amicably is crucial to maintaining morale within the armed forces.
