Melania Trump advice to Cheryl Hines life with RFK Jr. 2026

Melania Trump has shared personal advice with actress Cheryl Hines on how to navigate the high-pressure environment of Washington, D.C., following Hines’ relocation to the capital with her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. In a recent interview at the world premiere of her documentary, Melania, the First Lady revealed that she encouraged Hines to embrace the unique opportunities of political life. “When I saw them, I just encouraged them to enjoy it,” Melania said. “It’s an incredible life… There are a few years that we are here and let’s do the best we can.” The advice comes as Hines transitions from a three-decade career in Hollywood to the role of a Cabinet spouse following Kennedy’s appointment as the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services in February 2025.

The budding friendship between the two women has been described by insiders as a source of stability during a tumultuous first year for the administration. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. spoke warmly of the First Lady’s efforts to welcome his wife, stating that Melania has gone out of her way to make them feel “very comfortable” since their move to a $4.4 million townhouse in Georgetown. Kennedy also noted that Melania has been one of the “primary drivers” of his agenda within the administration, citing her deep passion for children’s health, clean food, and foster care issues—areas that overlap significantly with his “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) mission.+1

The move to D.C. has not been without its challenges for the Curb Your Enthusiasm star. Hines has previously described the transition as “scary,” likening it to “starting over at 35” despite being 60 years old. In her recently released memoir, Unscripted, Hines candidly detailed the emotional toll of the 2024 campaign, including the moment she broke out in hives after Kennedy first discussed endorsing Donald Trump. She also addressed the public scrutiny and “next level” backlash she has faced from former Hollywood peers, some of whom have reportedly cut ties with her over her husband’s political alignment. “It’s not always gonna be easy,” Hines told CBS News, “but we also know not everybody’s gonna like what you’re saying, what you’re doing, and that’s OK.”+2

Despite the “chilly” reception from some members of the Kennedy clan and a highly publicized “sexting” scandal involving journalist Olivia Nuzzi in late 2024, Hines and Kennedy appear to have “tightened their ties” in the new year. Hines has noted that she finds inspiration in the “new glamour” of Washington, specifically citing Melania Trump as setting a “high bar” for fashion and poise in the capital. As Hines continues to attend Cabinet spouse meetings and adapt to a life where “off the record” is the default setting for social gatherings, Melania’s advice to simply “do the best you can” has become a guiding mantra for the actress.
