Federal Government Orders Urgent Rescue Mission for Kebbi Schoolgirls, Vows Justice for Slain Vice Principal
The Nigerian Federal Government has strongly condemned the attack on the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) Maga in Kebbi State, immediately directing all security agencies to launch an urgent and coordinated search and rescue operation for the 25 abducted female students. The government has pledged to pursue justice for the slain Vice Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, while also committing to enhanced regional security cooperation to protect citizens.
The Federal Government, through the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has issued a forceful condemnation of the bandit attack on the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) Maga in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, which occurred in the early hours of Monday. Minister Matawalle relayed the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ordering an immediate, multi-agency response to locate and safely recover the 25 abducted students without delay. The Minister described the assault, which led to the tragic death of the school’s Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, as unacceptable and deeply regrettable, underscoring the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.
In response to the directive, a joint team comprising additional police tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilantes has been fully mobilized and deployed to the Danko-Wasagu area. This combined security force is currently combing suspected escape routes and surrounding forests in a coordinated search and rescue operation, with the security apparatus in Kebbi State now mandated to intensify intelligence operations and strengthen inter-agency coordination. The Commissioner of Police for Kebbi State, Bello M. Sani, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the safety of all residents, appealing for calm and vigilance among community members as the operations proceed. The tragic incident marks the latest in a series of mass abductions targeting educational institutions across Nigeria’s Northwest region, prompting the Federal Government to reiterate its commitment to protecting schools and ensuring that the safety of students remains a top national priority, a measure often requiring deeper regional cooperation to curb cross-border banditry operations.
