Nigerian Court Halts PDP’s 2025 National Convention Amid Leadership Dispute
A Federal High Court has issued an order stopping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its 2025 National Convention until further notice. The ruling followed an emergency motion filed by aggrieved members of the party who challenged the legality of the planned convention, citing unresolved leadership and zoning disputes within the party’s national structure.
According to court documents, the plaintiffs argued that proceeding with the convention without addressing pending internal conflicts would violate the party’s constitution and disenfranchise several state delegates. The court, in response, directed all parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the substantive suit.
The injunction throws the PDP’s preparations into uncertainty, especially as the party had already set preliminary committees and logistics in motion for what was expected to be a major event ahead of the 2027 general elections. Party officials have yet to issue an official response, though insiders suggest emergency consultations are underway to resolve the crisis and possibly appeal the ruling.
