Microsoft Ends Support for Windows 10 as of October 14, 2025
Microsoft has officially ended support for Windows 10, marking October 14, 2025 as the date from which the operating system no longer receives free security updates, feature enhancements, or technical assistance. Computers still running Windows 10 will continue to function, but without critical protection against new security threats and software vulnerabilities.
After this date, users whose devices meet the system requirements can upgrade to Windows 11 at no additional cost. Microsoft is also offering a one‐year Extended Security Updates (ESU) program which lets eligible Windows 10 machines continue to receive essential security patches through October 13, 2026. To qualify for the ESU plan, some users must link their system with a Microsoft account and meet other eligibility conditions.
The end of support for Windows 10 affects all major editions: Home, Pro, Education, Enterprise, and others. While Microsoft 365 apps will continue to receive updates until October 2028, the underlying system’s lack of new security patches means users are advised to consider migrating to newer hardware or alternate operating systems if upgrading is not feasible.
