Trump to Declassify US Records on Amelia Earharts Disappearance
President Donald Trump has directed the full declassification and public release of U.S. government records tied to the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, the pioneering aviator who vanished in 1937 during her attempt to fly around the world. Trump announced the move in a social media post, stating that the enduring mystery of Earhart’s fate continues to fascinate millions worldwide.
The decision follows a request made in July by Kimberlyn King-Hinds, a delegate from the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, who noted that elderly residents on Saipan have long claimed credible sightings of Earhart. She urged the president to release any unreleased files that might shed light on her final days.
Although portions of Earhart’s case have already been released over the years, historians believe that very little classified material may still exist. Nonetheless, there is hope that any remaining documents could provide fresh details or clarify long-standing questions surrounding her disappearance.
The order comes at a time when the Trump administration faces pressure over the handling of other sensitive files, adding to the growing demand for transparency.
