Small Plane Crashes in Fort Worth, Killing Two and Igniting Blaze Among Trucks
A small aircraft crashed Sunday afternoon near Hicks Airfield in Fort Worth, Texas, killing two people and setting multiple trucks ablaze, authorities confirmed. The crash occurred around 1:36 p.m. in the 12700 block of North Saginaw Boulevard, where the plane struck a business lot storing trailers and semi-trucks before erupting into a fireball. Fire officials said at least ten tractor-trailers were damaged when they caught fire, and a grass fire also spread from the crash site. Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 35 minutes.
The aircraft, identified as a twin-engine King Air that had departed from Alliance Airport, crashed into the back of a parking facility and skidded into parked trucks amid thick smoke and fire. Witnesses reported hearing a loud boom just before the explosion and seeing black smoke rising high into the sky. Emergency crews including the Fort Worth Fire Department, Saginaw and Haslet fire units, and local sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene. Roads in the vicinity, including Business US-287, were shut down temporarily to aid firefighting operations and secure the area.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims or confirmed whether there were any survivors or injuries on the ground. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with the Federal Aviation Administration expected to lead the inquiry. Officials say there is no indication yet whether mechanical failure, pilot error, or weather played a role in the tragedy.
