SERAP urges INEC to sanction politicians for early campaigns
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sanction politicians who are engaging in early campaigns ahead of the official election timetable. SERAP stated that such actions violate electoral guidelines and threaten the credibility of Nigeriaโs democratic process.
According to the group, allowing early political campaigns without consequences undermines fair competition and creates an uneven playing field. SERAP further emphasized that INEC has both the authority and responsibility to enforce electoral laws by ensuring that parties and candidates adhere strictly to the rules.
The organization also urged citizens to remain vigilant and hold political leaders accountable, stressing that transparency and discipline are critical to strengthening democratic governance. By sanctioning offenders, SERAP noted, INEC would be sending a strong message that electoral malpractice will not be tolerated.
