Osun Election Has Proven Every Evil Has Expiry Date – Pat Utomi
Political economist and former presidential candidate Pat Utomi has said the recently concluded Osun State governorship election has demonstrated that “evil has an expiry date.”
Utomi made the statement while reacting to the outcome of the election in a post on X. He said the result showed that even people who may not appear worthy can sometimes play a role in stopping a political movement and changing the course of events.
“If Osun elections proved a point, it is that evil has an expiry date and that even the unworthy can be used to stop the train,” Utomi stated.
He further warned politicians and those in positions of authority against ignoring the anger and hardship experienced by citizens.
According to him, leaders who ignore hunger and public frustration while believing their own propaganda could eventually face the consequences of the people’s anger.
Utomi also appealed to Nigerians not to give up on the country’s future, saying the nation is too important and the dreams of its founding fathers too valuable for citizens to surrender because of political leaders.
The comments came shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Governor Ademola Adeleke the winner of the Osun governorship election. Adeleke polled 511,067 votes against APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji’s 444,815 votes, according to reports on the election result.
Utomi’s remarks have added to the political debate surrounding the Osun election, with analysts and political actors examining what the result could mean for Nigeria’s wider political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The political economist’s comments also reflect his broader warning that leaders who fail to respond to economic hardship and public dissatisfaction risk losing the support of the people.
