Adeleke Gets Emotional During Congratulatory Call From Davido
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke became emotional during a congratulatory phone call from his nephew, Afrobeats star Davido, shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared him the winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Adeleke was visibly moved during the conversation as Davido congratulated him on securing another term in office. The emotional exchange was captured on video and quickly attracted attention on social media.
During the call, Adeleke reportedly asked Davido to come and give him a hug, highlighting the close relationship between the governor and the music star.
Davido had played an active role in his uncle’s re-election campaign. Following the official declaration, the singer celebrated the result on social media, writing, “WE DID IT UNC!!!”
INEC declared Adeleke the winner after he secured 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. ADC candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes. Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.
The victory gives Adeleke another four-year term after he first became governor in 2022. He contested the 2026 election on the platform of the Accord Party, marking a political change from the PDP platform under which he won his first term.
Davido had remained closely involved in the campaign, participating in rallies and grassroots mobilisation while encouraging voters to support his uncle’s re-election bid.
The emotional phone call has since become one of the most widely shared moments following Adeleke’s victory, with supporters celebrating the apparent bond between the governor and his famous nephew.
