Omoyele Sowore countersues DSS
Activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has filed two separate fundamental human rights suits against the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The move comes after prolonged tensions between Sowore and the DSS over allegations of unlawful detention and infringement on his rights. His legal team confirmed that the countersuits seek judicial intervention to enforce constitutional protections and hold the security agency accountable for alleged violations.
Sowore, who has consistently challenged government policies and security practices, is demanding the court to reaffirm his right to freedom of expression, personal liberty, and political participation. The activist maintains that the DSS has overstepped its constitutional powers and unlawfully targeted him for his political activities.
The cases are expected to draw national attention as they test the boundaries of security agencies’ authority and citizens’ constitutional rights ahead of the 2027 elections. The Federal High Court has yet to fix a date for the hearings.
