Mystics Edge Fever in OT Despite Clark’s 32 Points
Mystics defeat Fever overtime Caitlin Clark
The Washington Mystics defeated the Indiana Fever 104-102 in a thrilling overtime game on Friday night. The matchup took place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Caitlin Clark led the Fever with an incredible 32-point performance. However, her late-game heroics were not enough to secure a victory for the home team.
The loss dropped the Fever to a 1-2 record for the regular season. Meanwhile, the Mystics improved their own record to 2-1 following the hard-fought road victory.
Clark struggled significantly with her shooting stroke early in the game.
She missed 12 of her first 14 shots through the first three quarters. Despite these struggles, the superstar guard found her rhythm in the fourth period. She hit consecutive three-pointers to spark a massive comeback for Indiana. Clark finished the night with seven made three-pointers on 17 attempts. She also contributed eight assists, four rebounds, two steals, and one block in her 37 minutes of play.
Her sudden scoring burst electrified the home crowd and successfully forced the game into overtime.
The Mystics countered Clark’s scoring surge with a balanced offensive attack. Guard Sonia Citron delivered a spectacular performance for Washington.
She scored 30 points while shooting an efficient 10-of-14 from the field. Citron also converted nine of her ten free-throw attempts. Forward Kiki Iriafen dominated the interior for the visitors. She recorded a double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Center Shakira Austin added 19 points and nine rebounds to anchor the frontcourt. Their combined efforts allowed Washington to maintain composure during the extra period.
Indiana also received a strong contribution from veteran guard Kelsey Mitchell. Mitchell scored 24 points during her 39 minutes on the hardwood. Forward Monique Billings nearly recorded a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. However, the Fever suffered from critical defensive lapses down the stretch. Washington capitalized on these mistakes to secure the final two-point margin. Head coach Stephanie White will look to fix these defensive issues quickly. The Fever continue their current four-game homestand on Sunday afternoon.
