Former Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji has opened up on his decision to part ways with the Premier League champions, citing the intense competition for playing time under Pep Guardiola.
Akanji revealed that Guardiola was transparent about the situation, telling the squad that with six central defenders in contention, it would be difficult for anyone to secure consistent minutes on the pitch.
“It was not an ideal situation, but I was well aware of the competition for places,” Akanji explained, highlighting the challenges of breaking into a star-studded City backline.
