Tennis legend Roger Federer is set to make a highly anticipated return to the U.S. Open this summer for a one-night exhibition event titled “Roger Federer: An Icon Returns to New York.” The United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced that the event will take place on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Arthur Ashe Stadium during the tournament’s Fan Week, which precedes the main singles draw.
Federer, the only player in tournament history to win five consecutive U.S. Open singles titles (2004–2008), will take the court for a doubles match alongside fellow tennis greats Andre Agassi, John McEnroe, and Andy Roddick. This appearance marks his first return to the Grand Slam venue since his final competitive appearance there in 2019 and his subsequent retirement from the professional tour in 2022.
”The U.S. Open has always been one of the most special tournaments for me,” Federer said in a statement regarding his return. “So many unforgettable moments of my career happened in New York, and Arthur Ashe Stadium is a place that means a great deal to me. I’ve missed being part of that atmosphere and feeling the incredible energy that the fans bring every year”.
The exhibition serves as a precursor to Federer’s formal induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The ceremony for the 20-time Grand Slam champion is scheduled for August 29, 2026, in Newport, Rhode Island, honoring his storied 24-year career.
