A 2.4 magnitude earthquake occurred near Bel Air North in Harford County, Maryland, on the morning of Monday, June 15, 2026. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the tremor struck at approximately 11:02 a.m. EDT, with an epicenter located about 5.5 miles (or 8 kilometers) northeast of Bel Air North at a depth of roughly 5 kilometers.
While earthquakes are relatively uncommon in the mid-Atlantic region, the tremor was felt by residents across Harford County, with some reports of the shaking extending into parts of Baltimore County. Following the event, local emergency management officials confirmed that there were no reports of injuries or structural damage.
Seismologists noted that while small tremors in the Washington-Baltimore urban corridor have occurred periodically since the late 1800s, they are typically minor and cause little to no impact.
