Dua Lipa Sues Samsung for $15M Over Unauthorized TV Ads

Dua Lipa Samsung lawsuit $15 million

Dua Lipa filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung in the Central District of California on Friday, May 8, 2026. The 30-year-old singer-songwriter alleges that the global electronics manufacturer used her face and likeness on its television packaging without her consent or any form of compensation. According to the formal complaint, the image in question was a photograph of the artist performing at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024.

The lawsuit asserts that Lipa holds the exclusive copyright to this specific photograph. The legal filing argues that Samsung began using the image on cardboard boxes for various television models last year as part of a mass marketing campaign. This unauthorized use allegedly created a false impression that the global pop star endorsed the brand’s consumer electronics.

The legal team representing the three-time Grammy winner claims that they initially contacted Samsung to demand the immediate removal of her image from their products. The lawsuit describes the response from the electronics company as “dismissive and callous,” alleging that the manufacturer refused to stop using the promotional materials.

The complaint emphasizes that Ms. Lipa has cultivated a premium personal brand and remains highly selective regarding her professional endorsements. Her attorneys argue that the prominent use of her face on a mass-market consumer product occurred without her knowledge or input. The suit specifically targets the company for copyright violation, a violation of the California right of publicity statute, and various federal trademark claims under the Lanham Act.

To support the claim of false endorsement, the lawsuit includes several social media posts from consumers on the platform X. These posts suggest that the presence of the singer’s image on the packaging directly influenced purchasing decisions for some customers. One cited user claimed they were not planning to purchase a television until they saw the box featuring the artist. Another commenter stated they would buy the product simply because of the singer’s involvement.

The legal team argues these interactions prove that Samsung profited from the unauthorized use of her likeness. While Samsung has not yet issued a public statement regarding the litigation, industry analysts suggest the case could set a significant precedent for celebrity image rights in digital and physical marketing. The singer is seeking $15 million in damages and a permanent injunction to stop the use of her image on all current and future Samsung products.
