The incident, captured on video, has drawn scrutiny from aviation regulators regarding the violation of safety protocols.
Social media sensation Martins Otse, widely known as Verydarkman (VDM), and comedian Freedom Atsepoyi, known as Mr Jollof, have both confirmed that they exchanged punches and engaged in a physical fight while onboard a commercial aircraft. The brawl reportedly erupted on a United Nigeria Airlines flight traveling from Asaba, Delta State, to Lagos following a chance encounter between the two figures whose professional rivalry has recently intensified. Footage of the altercation, which showed the celebrities throwing blows and grappling in the airplane cabin, quickly circulated online after being shared by another passenger. The incident represents a severe escalation of a heated public feud that has been ongoing for over a year, stemming primarily from defamation claims and controversial personal accusations made by VDM against Mr Jollof’s wife.
In a follow-up video post, Verydarkman confirmed the face-off, claiming he got the better of the comedian and alleging that Mr Jollof resorted to biting during the confrontation. Mr Jollof has yet to issue a detailed statement on the physical fight itself, though the historical context of their animosity includes a N500 million defamation lawsuit filed by Mrs. Atsepoyi against VDM last year over claims of infidelity.
