Aliko Dangote Announces Expansion of Dangote Refinery to 1.4 Million Barrels Per Day – Making It World’s Largest

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has officially announced a massive expansion of the Dangote Refinery, revealing plans to increase its capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to an unprecedented 1.4 million barrels per day. The development, once completed, will make it the largest refinery in the world.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lagos, Dangote said the expansion marks a historic milestone in Nigeria’s industrial development and global energy influence. “We are officially announcing that we are expanding the Dangote Refinery from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day, which will make it the largest refinery in the world ever,” he stated.

Industry analysts have hailed the move as a major leap for Africa’s energy independence, projecting that the expansion will drastically reduce petroleum imports, boost export capacity, and strengthen Nigeria’s foreign reserves. The refinery, already a key part of the nation’s economic diversification efforts, is expected to meet all of Nigeria’s domestic fuel demands while supplying several African markets.

Dangote emphasized that the upgrade will also create thousands of new jobs and support local industries through increased downstream production and supply chain opportunities.
