WAEC Releases 2026 WASSCE Results
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, bringing an end to weeks of anticipation for nearly two million students, parents, and schools across Nigeria. The examination body announced the release on Wednesday and advised candidates to generate their Personal Identification Number (PIN) before accessing their results through the official WAEC result-checking portal.
According to WAEC, a total of 1,950,726 candidates sat for the 2026 WASSCE. Of that number, 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54%, obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, the benchmark required for admission into most universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education in Nigeria. The results were announced by the Head of WAEC’s Nigeria National Office, Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, during a press briefing in Lagos.
WAEC also reminded candidates that they must first obtain a valid result-checking PIN and serial number through its official platform before logging into the result portal. The council urged candidates to use only its official websites to check their results and warned against fraudulent websites and scammers who may attempt to exploit students during the result-checking process.
The release of the results marks a significant milestone for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions for the 2026/2027 academic session. Universities and other higher institutions are expected to begin using the results for admission screening and other academic processes in the coming weeks.
WAEC had earlier stated that the results would be released approximately 45 days after the conclusion of the examination, a timeline it has successfully met. The council continues to encourage candidates to verify their results through its official channels and keep their examination details secure to avoid unauthorized access.
