The Israeli military has launched the initial phase of its planned assault on Gaza City, as confirmed by military spokesman Brigadier General Effie Defrin. Forces have moved into positions around the city’s outskirts, marking a clear escalation in the long-running conflict.
This offensive follows recent clashes with Hamas fighters near Khan Younis, prompting Israel to call up additional forces. While the attack is intensifying, Defense Minister Israel Katz has authorized these actions with the aim of weakening Hamas’s command structure.
In a statement, the military emphasized that steps are being taken to minimize civilian harm; residents are being urged to evacuate certain areas. At the same time, humanitarian aid is being permitted— and even expanded—through designated distribution points despite ongoing hostilities.
