Trump Celebrates 'Big Day' with Starmer, EU Leaders, and Zelensky in Washington

President Donald Trump described it as a “big day” as he welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and several European Union leaders to Washington for a high-stakes diplomatic summit. The meeting at the White House comes just days after Trump’s talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, where he signaled support for a broader peace settlement rather than prioritizing an immediate ceasefire.

The summit is expected to focus on potential compromises, including discussions on territorial concessions by Ukraine in exchange for firm security guarantees comparable to NATO’s protection. Trump emphasized the need for a comprehensive agreement that could mark a turning point in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

President Zelensky, however, strongly dismissed any suggestion of ceding Ukrainian territory, stressing that sovereignty and territorial integrity remain non-negotiable. He called for binding international security assurances to protect Ukraine from future aggression. European leaders, including Prime Minister Starmer, backed Zelensky’s stance, insisting that any agreement must be Ukraine-led and based on international law.

The Washington gathering represents a critical moment in global efforts to end the war, with leaders seeking to balance diplomatic pressure, military deterrence, and strategic guarantees to prevent further Russian advances.
