Senator Ned Nwoko Says Men with One Wife Are Missing Stability – Defends Polygamy as Key to Marital Balance

Nigerian lawmaker Senator Ned Nwoko has sparked renewed debate on marriage and polygamy after stating that he feels sorry for men who have only one wife, arguing that polygamy offers men greater emotional stability and family balance.

Speaking during an interview in Abuja, the Delta North Senator maintained that having multiple wives can reduce infidelity and domestic conflict, claiming that men are naturally polygamous by design. “I actually feel sorry for men who have only one wife. Polygamy gives stability and balance in marriage — it prevents the many temptations men face when they are restricted to one partner,” he said.

Nwoko, who is known for his polygamous lifestyle, has long been vocal about the benefits of multiple marriages, insisting it can foster responsibility and reduce social vices if properly practiced. His latest remarks, however, have drawn mixed reactions from Nigerians, with some supporting his cultural perspective while others criticized the statement as outdated and insensitive.

Social commentators have noted that Nwoko’s comments reignite ongoing discussions around marital values, modernization, and gender equality in Nigeria’s evolving social structure.
