Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of confirming the signing of central defender Marcos Senesi as the first major arrival of their summer rebuild. The 29-year-old Argentina international, who has officially parted ways with AFC Bournemouth, is currently in advanced talks with Spurs. Reports indicate that an agreement in principle has been reached, with the North London club working to finalize personal terms on a four-year contract that would keep the defender at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2030.
The move marks a significant coup for Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi, who has been aggressively reshaping the squad following the club’s successful fight for Premier League survival this season. Senesi’s decision to join Tottenham comes after he attracted interest from several high-profile European clubs, including Chelsea, Liverpool, and Barcelona. However, the Argentine defender reportedly chose to continue his career in the Premier League with Spurs, viewing the project under De Zerbi as the ideal environment for his next chapter.
Senesi’s departure from Bournemouth was confirmed just prior to the Cherries’ season finale against Manchester City, a match that secured the club’s historic qualification for European competition. Throughout the 2025-26 season, the left-footed center-back distinguished himself as one of the most creative defenders in the league, notably registering five assists—the highest tally for any center-back across Europe’s top five divisions. His ability to contribute to the attack from deep, combined with his experience, is expected to provide much-needed stability to the Tottenham backline.
The deal is expected to be formally completed in the coming days, making Senesi the second prominent free-agent arrival for Spurs this summer alongside Liverpool’s Andy Robertson, who has also reportedly agreed to a move to North London. As the transfer window officially approaches, Tottenham’s recruitment strategy appears focused on securing veteran leadership to complement their existing core.
