Pep Guardiola Details Sir Alex Ferguson’s Voicemail After Exit
Pep Guardiola Sir Alex Ferguson message
Following the official announcement of his departure from Manchester City at the end of the 2025/26 season, Pep Guardiola shared that he received a personal message from legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Guardiola, who will conclude a historic 10-year tenure at the Etihad Stadium, described the correspondence as one of the most significant compliments he has received during his time in England.
Guardiola revealed that the communication from the former United boss arrived in the form of a voicemail. The Catalan manager, who famously defeated Ferguson’s United in two Champions League finals while at the helm of Barcelona, noted that the message served as a heartfelt gesture acknowledging the extraordinary standards established at Manchester City under his leadership. He stated that Ferguson reached out specifically to congratulate him on his trajectory and the significant achievements secured during his decade-long spell in Manchester.
In a light-hearted moment during his press conference, the outgoing City boss admitted that he had some difficulty fully understanding the message due to the intensity of the legendary Scotsman’s famous accent. Guardiola joked about the need for a bit of translation, but expressed deep gratitude for the gesture, emphasizing that it meant a great deal to him to hear from such an iconic figure in football history.
Guardiola’s departure follows a trophy-laden era that saw him secure 20 major honors, including six Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy. As he prepares for his final match in charge, the Spaniard acknowledged that while the two did not cross paths in the domestic dugout, the respect between them remains profound, drawing comparisons between Ferguson and his own mentor, the late Johan Cruyff.
